What Is SHIP?
The Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) helps people in Minnesota live healthier lives. What Are Examples of SHIP Projects?
- Making fresh fruits and vegetables easier to find at farmers' markets and stores
- Offering healthier food and more physical activity at schools and childcare facilities
- Improving biking and walking paths in towns and cities
- Making apartments and multi-unit housing smoke-free
- Helping businesses support employee health
- Connecting patients to health programs in their community
- Supporting breastfeeding moms at work and in public places
Why Workplace Wellness?
Many people spend at least a third of their day at work, which is why workplace wellness is so important. Organizations play a crucial role in supporting and promoting the health and wellbeing of their employees. Workplace wellness initiatives foster a culture of health and can have benefits for both the organization and the employee, including decreased absenteeism and health care costs, improved productivity, time and stress management, increased employee recruitment and retention, and bolstered employee morale and commitment.
Focus of Workplace Wellness
Workplace wellness initiatives focus on policy, system, and environmental (PSE) changes, within the areas of healthy eating, physical activity, wellbeing, breastfeeding support, and commercial tobacco-free living.
Tri Wellness at Work
Tri Wellness at Work is a collaborative between Benton, Sherburne, and Stearns counties working to help organizations in the tri-county area create sustainable workplace wellness programs. This opportunity is made available by the Minnesota Department of Health Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) at no cost to organizations. Since 2015, Tri Wellness at Work has connected with 61 organizations.
Organizations that are new to workplace wellness or those that would like to enhance their current workplace wellness initiatives can join the Tri Wellness at Work Learning Group. The Learning Group meets monthly for 6-8 months to learn the foundational elements of workplace wellness and to implement best practices in their own organizations.
